On Monday, October 26th, the Cambia Grove together with the Washington State Department of Commerce shared the findings of their newly published Economic Development report.
This first-of-its-kind study revealed the importance of health care innovation for the Pacific Northwest economy with mind-boggling data points that showcase how health care innovation work continuously drives growth for Washington state’s economy and accounts for:
-
22,500 health care innovation jobs across urban and rural areas
-
$2 billion dollars total income for Washington State
-
6 percent of the state’s total health care economy
-
13 percent of Washington’s total health care related goods and services
The findings confirm that health care innovation in Washington state is a valuable asset to the ever-growing economy and demonstrates how important the Cambia Grove’s mission to continue to cultivate health care innovation in Washington is. In fact, recently, GeekWire posted a story regarding Seattle’s next major breakthrough – democratic innovation centered around conversation and collaboration, which are exactly the same ingredients Cambia Grove is fostering around health care innovation. Seattle was touted as a city focused on its community’s future. “That’s the Seattle way, and it’s distinctly different from the way that other technology centers in the United States think, feel and operate” says Vikram Jandhyala, Vice Provost of Innovation at the University of Washington and author of the article.
The newly unveiled Health Innovation Economic Impact Report will act as a benchmark for the sub-sector and includes innovative work in the health care industry such as drug development, industrial biotech, mobile health, health IT, and health devices.
