2016 marks the Portland Classic’s 45th anniversary and the third year Cambia has served as a sponsor for the event. Now called the Cambia Portland Classic, it is an LPGA golf tournament that creates an opportunity to celebrate our community and the new generation of female athletes in golf.
Throughout the event (June 27-July 3), spectators were treated to a title-defending performance by 18-year-old golfer Brooke Henderson. Last year’s tournament win helped Brooke break into the international spotlight. Now, a year later, fans assembled at the beautiful Columbia Edgewater Country Club in Portland to witness one of the world’s best golfers at the top of her game.
Cambia is honored to be part of this event that celebrates us all living well together. This year, spectators entered the tournament from the Cambia Fan Pavilion and were able to learn firsthand what Cambia is all about. We shared our focus on innovation through an interactive telehealth experience in partnership with MDLive, as well as invited attendees to learn about MedSavvy, our consumer pharmacy tool.
Golf fans of all ages and experience levels enjoyed the tournament this year. The Classic provided a family-friendly weekend of fun. From lockers stuffed with prizes, to selfie opportunities with life-size cut outs of Brooke Henderson, Suzann Pettersen and the trophy, there was something to experience at every turn. Spectators could even try their hand at the driving range with a virtual golf station.
This year, we introduced the Charitable Walking Challenge which allowed attendees to give back to a charitable organization just by walking the course throughout the tournament. Each day, steps were exchanged for a vote for one of four charities, and the charity with the most number of votes by the end of the tournament received a $10,000 donation from Cambia. In total, attendees walked 7,640,544 steps which is about 3,618 miles, and voted for Oregon Junior Golf as the charity to win the $10,000 donation.
Thank you to all of the fans and volunteers that helped make the Cambia Portland Classic a success!
