Cambia’s Military Community Employee Resource Group (MCERG) was recently presented with the Bob Schumacher Inspirational Award at the 13th Annual Cpl. Jon Schumacher Golf Tournament and Fundraiser.
At each tournament, the organizers acknowledge an individual or group that has made a significant impact on the event. This year, Cambia’s MCERG was selected as the recipient based on our contributions over the past 13 years, including golf ball donations, volunteer support, volunteer time reimbursement and consistent tournament representation.
About the award
In 2011, Cpl. Jon Schumacher was injured in the line of duty while serving his second tour in Afghanistan. His uncle Bob, with whom he shared a special bond, initiated a support fund for Jon’s family in their time of need. After Bob's passing in 2015, Jon's family wanted to honor his memory and recognize the outpouring of support he inspired. They established the Bob Schumacher Inspirational Award in 2016 as a lasting tribute to the impact he had.
Paying it forward
Since Cpl. Jon Schumacher's injury, his supporters have rallied around him and his family, raising vital funds to support their journey. The annual Cpl. Jon Schumacher Golf Tournament continues this tradition, paying it forward by raising funds for organizations that have supported or continue to support Jon and his family. This year’s beneficiary was Homes for our Troops, an organization that builds and donates specially adapted custom homes nationwide for severely injured post-9/11 Veterans to help them to rebuild their lives.
