At the core of Cambia’s commitment to sustainability is the belief that aligning environmental stewardship, economic health and social equity create strong, vibrant communities. In celebration of Earth Month, Cambia employees have engaged in activities and resources across their local communities to support more sustainable environments.
Our commitment to sustainability isn’t just in April. Here are some examples of the company’s year-round commitment to our communities:
- Twenty percent of Cambia employees use company-subsidized public transit, reducing traffic congestion and tailpipe emissions
- Employees in our Burlington, WA, office join together and operate an on-site garden
- Portland, OR, volunteers participate in Habitat for Humanity builds and SOLVE clean-ups
- Our Lewiston, ID, office has an Adopt-A-Street program, which involves regular cleanups to promote civic responsibility
- In 2016 more than $2.2 million dollars was distributed to over 2,000 nonprofits across the nation through our company-wide Employee Giving Campaign
We asked Cambia employees to share what they’re doing personally to make a difference:
"I have young kids, and they get really excited on the days the recycling company comes to pick up our trash. Throughout the week they regularly sort trash from recycled materials. Seeing them involved at such a young age is really encouraging to me."
"I work from home, so I'm very aware of the amount of paper I use. When I can take notes digitally instead of by hand, I do. I'm really working on improving my carbon footprint."
"There are so many little things you can do! I participate in a community garden, pick up litter every day while walking and unplug electronics that aren't in use. Those are simple things that anyone can do to be more sustainable."
These small actions lead to big impact. In fact, during the Northwest Earth Institute’s 2016 EcoChallenge the Cambia team placed 17th out of 450 teams all working to improve their communities. Participants carpooled, ate meatless meals, wrote letters, replaced light bulbs and saved gallons of water by turning off the water while brushing their teeth.
