This April, a large group of health care venture representatives from the insurance, provider, tech, pharma and medtech worlds began a work group, the HES Corporate Venture Action Group (CVAG), on the rising tide of venture health care investing. Their participation spurred from the Health Evolution Summit (HES), focused every year on connecting leaders across the health care industry to improve health care for people.
The investment work group was founded and sponsored by Cambia Health Solutions and the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) with discussions focused on the complexity of health care investment, and how to measure its lasting impact on people and the system as a whole.
As a result of the lively discussion and meetings, a survey was conducted resulting in the CVAG report published this week on what health care investors are investing in, why, how much they’re spending, and much more. This report gives the world a glimpse into the future of venture health care investment moving forward.
Cambia’s Rob Coppedge can be found in the accompanying videos to the CVAG report sharing his insights from the HES conference and CVAG, including his perspective on seeing a new breed of corporate venture investors participating for the first time this year. By sharing insights and partnering with the new face of venture investment, Cambia can effectively accomplish our company’s long-standing strategy of creating a sustainable health care system that is focused on people’s needs by investing in and creating a new core business -- not just investing in vendors supporting our health plans.
Further, HCA’s Will Morrow is also featured in the HES conference videos sharing his company’s perspective on investment, specifically calling out their strategy and success in de-risk as a venture function. HCA is making bets on companies, and have been pleased with their activity.
