High-deductible plans account for nearly 25 percent of individual enrollment in Oregon, according to the Oregon Insurance Division.
More than 53,000 Oregonians have “bronze” plans, which cover 60 percent of expected costs. That can lead to confusion and sticker shock over unanticipated out-of-pocket costs.
A Cambia Health Solutions startup has devised a way to remove that element of surprise. Wellero’s mobile app allows a patient to understand up front and in real time what they owe, based on their particular benefits and how much of their deductible they’ve used. The app has 1,100 registered users.
