Cambia Health Solutions, a total health solutions company, is proud to announce the launch of Wellero, a company that is revolutionizing the health care payment system. Wellero offers consumers a mobile application that allows them to pay for their health care services before they leave their provider’s office. Organizations like the American Medical Association have called on insurers to provide physicians with better tools to automatically determine a consumer's payment responsibility before treatment. Wellero allows consumers to pay at the time of service based on their health insurance benefits or cash prices for the uninsured.
“We’ve all left the doctor’s office only to receive a surprise bill in the mail weeks later,” said Wellero co-founder and President Hanny Freiwat. “As patients ourselves, we saw a need for the ability to check-in, see the price of the service, and calculate the cost of the visit based on our insurance coverage. We wanted to pay at the provider’s office if we were incented with a prompt payment discount or just to avoid the confusing paper trail that precedes the actual bill.”
To use Wellero, healthcare providers do not need to purchase any new software or equipment. Instead, the patient’s smartphone can access the Wellero system directly for ease of use.
Benefits for Healthcare Providers:
-
Consumer copay and coinsurance are collected at the time of the service. Wellero compensates the provider within two to three business days instead of the current 60 to 90 day insurance and patient payment cycle, eliminating the risk of not getting paid.
-
For the insured, Wellero checks the consumer’s insurance eligibility at the time of service, saving the provider administrative time and effort.
-
Wellero also reduces claims paperwork and billing errors for medical providers by applying health plan clinical editing rules at the time of the service, which can increase administrative efficiencies and reduce lost revenue from rejected claims.
-
There are no monthly subscription fees or equipment and no software integration costs. Wellero gets paid only when payments are collected from the consumer.
Benefits for Consumers:
-
Wellero is offered free of charge as an iOS and Android mobile app.
-
Wellero’s app is completely HIPAA and PCI compliant.
-
There are no surprise bills in the mail later. Consumers leave each office visit with no outstanding payments or bills. Some consumers may even receive a prompt-pay discount on their portion of the bill if that option is offered by their provider.
-
Benefit from seeing the price prior to the visit and understand how the insurance benefits can be used.
“We’ve received resounding feedback from the provider community that the app is easy to use and streamlines their office staff processing,” said Freiwat. “We expect this app to revolutionize the health care payment system by engaging the consumer in an educated dialogue with the provider. Wellero is committed to changing the relationship between providers and consumers and expects these changes will help lower national health care costs by reducing providers cost and helping consumers with understanding how to navigate a very complex industry through education and true price transparency. Wellero partners with Health Plans, Employer Groups, and Providers to offer its customers the best price when they need care.
“We are asking our users to help us invite their providers to join using the ‘suggest a new provider’ feature in the app” said Freiwat. “By listening to our users we will be able to engage with the right providers to serve their needs”.
The Wellero app is now available in the Apple app store™ and in Google Play®. To learn more, visit www.Wellero.com, providers can register with Wellero at portal.wellero.com, “Like” them on Facebook, or follow them on Twitter @welleroapp.
