PORTLAND, Ore.—Cambia Health Solutions was honored as one of Oregon's 2012 Healthiest Employers, outranking some stiff competition that included many health care companies.

Sponsored locally by the Portland Business Journal, the national Healthiest Employers program recognizes companies—large and small—that proactively shape the health of their employees and make a commitment to impact the health of their workplace and their bottom line. Scoring for the Healthiest Employers program, conducted by wellness professionals and academics, rates performance in seven key areas of workplace wellness: Culture and Leadership, Commitment, Foundational Components, Strategic Planning, Communications and Marketing, Programming and Interventions, and Reporting and Analysis.
Cambia's comrehensive WellPower program ranges from onsite gyms and biometric screenings to lower-priced healthy food in onsite cafes and stress reduction classes. Throughout the year, team fitness competitions keep employees engaged.
A highly trained wellness team, with full company support, has established an integrated program embraces people at every level of fitness that gets results:
- Employees can track activities online to earn insurance premium discounts, and 52 percent of those who tracked eligible wellness activities in 2011 earned a discount.
- Biometric screening over a two-year period showed the percentage of employees with elevated cholesterol levels dropped 10 percent; those who did not know cholesterol levels dropped 5 percent; and only 14 percent use tobacco, compared to the national average of 19 percent of adults.
- Actual savings of $9.2 million among wellness program participants over a five-year period, because of lower medical costs, fewer unplanned absence hours and lower disability claims than nonparticipants.
