Cambia Health Solutions has led a round of funding for Qliance Medical Management Inc. These funds are aimed at accelerating development of the Qliance clinic network and expanding access to their transformative and innovative approach to health care delivery in Washington State and beyond.
The Qliance flat-fee "direct primary care" model delivers unrestricted access to care through longer appointments, extended hours, and phone and electronic communications with providers so patients can take care of health needs promptly and avoid downstream care and costs. For larger groups, Qliance complements traditional healthcare coverage with onsite and near-site clinics that make access to care even more convenient and cost-effective.
"Our investment in Qliance supports Cambia's vision for a more economically sustainable healthcare system. They have demonstrated an ability to deliver a high quality patient experience through a comprehensive primary care model that departs from fee-for-service reimbursement, and which is showing compelling emerging cost reduction data in the Puget Sound region," said Rob Coppedge, senior vice president of Strategic Investment and Corporate Development for Cambia Health Solutions. "The market needs innovation like this, and we are glad to be in a position to help build this company and bring their service to the Regence health plan member community, as well as employers and patients nationwide. "
"Cambia's mission aligns perfectly with Qliance's goal of making primary care more affordable and accessible to patients as a way of reducing specialty and hospital costs while keeping people healthier and more productive," said Qliance CEO Erika Bliss, MD. "In addition to serving employers and patients, we are committed to working with health plans to better serve the large group market, where primary care has traditionally been underutilized despite a growing body of research demonstrating that convenient access to primary care improves clinical outcomes and patients' overall health, well-being and quality of life, while reducing costs."
Qliance clinics are designed to address approximately 90 percent of the issues for which patients seek a doctor's care, including all routine primary and preventive care. This includes women's health services, pediatric care, urgent care, wellness education, ongoing chronic disease management, select onsite procedures and diagnostics, as well as coordination of outside specialist and hospital care by a Qliance provider.
The Qliance model makes onsite and near-site clinics more affordable for mid-sized companies that otherwise might not be able to provide workplace care for their employees and members. Self-insured businesses can lower healthcare costs by up to 30 percent by offering Qliance direct primary care as an alternative to traditional fee-for-service primary care. Some fully insured businesses find that offering Qliance alongside a lower-cost wrap-around insurance plan can help reduce annual premium increases.
Patients who are not part of a large group can pay a flat monthly fee for comprehensive primary care ranging from $54 to $94 depending on age, regardless of their health status.
Also participating in this financing round were previous investors in Qliance including Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Michael Dell of Dell Computers, New Atlantic Ventures, and Second Avenue Partners.
